Watermelon is grown across Palestine and has become an icon of resistance. Since 1967, the Israeli government has banned public displays of the Palestinian flag. Sharing the same colors as their flag – red, green, white, and black – the watermelon became a subtle method of protest against the suppression of Palestinian culture and identity.
